Neon Need-to-knows
Neon- Origin from Greek word (neos) meaning new
Ne
Atomic # 10
Atomic Mass- 20.1797 amu
Group 18 Period 2
1s2 2s2 2p6 Valence Electrons-8
Color- Colourless
Melting Point= - 248.6 C
Boiling Point= -246.1 C
Density (at 293 K) = 0.901 g/cm3
Structure- Cubic
Physical State (at room temperature)- gas
Atomic Radius- .848 pm
Neon is a simple asphyxiant and, if the area is not properly ventilated, the oxygen in the air gets displaced and the user may suffocate.
